Why won't your desktop let you use your external HD? What's wrong with your laptop?

I don't know why but i think I'll have to manually install some drivers or something for it. My laptop won't hold a charge and if the cord isn't firmly kept in(and held in) the charger port, then it will say, 'your battery is critical' and die in about 10 seconds, give or take.
As long as you are with me, I'll dance for you.

Wow. Can you buy a new charger for your laptop?

Windows usually doesn't have a problem with external hard drives. It should be plug-and-play.

Nope, the charger is perfectly fine. I even have a spare. I'm thinking its the battery or the port.

It's gotta be the port because you should be able to run your laptop without a battery at all as long as the charger is plugged in. I know every laptop I've ever owned worked perfectly fine without the battery in it. Try taking the battery completely out, plug the charger in and try booting it up. If no boot then you probably have a bad port.
